Hidden Tree Creatures: Captured on the Bark & Roots of Trees, an international online solo photography exhibition by Elaine Partnow, officially opens on January 28 and continues for two months until March 28, 2025.
Elaine Partnow’s Hidden Tree Creatures is a mesmerizing exploration of nature’s quiet whispers, an invitation to see beyond the ordinary into the secret lives etched within the bark and roots of trees. Through her photographic lens, Elaine reveals an enchanting world where tree bark becomes a canvas for stories, and roots hold whispers of beings that might only exist in the realms of imagination. Each photograph showcases her uncanny ability to capture faces, creatures, and forms that seem to emerge organically, as if the trees themselves are storytellers waiting to be heard.
Elaine’s artistic journey, enriched by her diverse background as an actor, writer, and now an accomplished photographer at 83, speaks volumes of her boundless creativity. Her work is a testament to the idea that art knows no boundaries, not of age, medium, or perception. The creatures she uncovers—ranging from whimsical to contemplative—invite viewers to pause and connect with the intricate details of our natural world. They are a reminder that beauty often lies in the unnoticed and that even the silent trees harbor voices.
From the mythical “Baba Yaga” to the playful “Mr. Toad” and the contemplative “Thinking Frog,” her photographs evoke emotions, memories, and curiosity. Using only her iPhone and classic photographic techniques, Elaine captures what she sees as raw and honest reflections of nature, allowing the viewer’s imagination to complete the narrative. Her commitment to authenticity—eschewing digital manipulation—further deepens the intimacy and trust her art inspires.
In Hidden Tree Creatures, Elaine encourages us to not just look at trees but to truly see them—to see their strength, wisdom, and the magical creatures hidden within. The exhibition is more than a collection of photographs; it’s an homage to the natural world and a call to cherish the trees that sustain our planet. It’s a celebration of life’s interconnectedness, and a gentle nudge to honor the wonders that surround us.
Through her lens, Elaine offers us a transformative experience—one where bark and roots are not just parts of a tree but windows into a universe of imagination and wonder.

Artist:
Born and raised in Los Angeles, I’m an actor, writer, and photographer with a lifelong dedication to creative expression. I’ve been recognized in each field, earning six Best Actress festival awards for my role in the feature film “Slipaway,” and publishing 18 books, including "The Quotable Woman, the First 5,000 Years," now in its 6th edition since its 1978 release. Now, at 83, I’m diving deeper into photography—a passion that’s led me to some wonderful milestones. Recently named one of the top ten emerging artists by the Culver Arts Organization, I was sponsored to exhibit at the 5th Annual Walk and Roll Festival in 2024, where I made my first sales! A board member even dubbed me the “Grandma Moses of photography.” Photography has given me a new lens through which to share the world, allowing me to capture life’s small wonders and hidden details. I hope that after viewing my photographs, people will see trees, and perhaps the world around them, with fresh eyes and deeper appreciation.
