Metamorphosis, an international online solo mixed media exhibition by Karen Mooney, officially opens on February 8 and continues for two months until April 8, 2025.
Karen Mooney’s "Metamorphosis" is a deeply transformative solo mixed-media exhibition that invites viewers into a vibrant tapestry of community, love, and unity expressed through the intricate aesthetics of glass and textile-inspired art. This collection beautifully intertwines Mooney’s passion for cultural diversity and interconnectedness with her mastery of color, texture, and form.
Karen’s artistic journey is a testament to evolution and resilience. Having studied under the esteemed Paul Stankard, Mooney’s craft is rooted in tradition yet boldly ventures into contemporary realms. Her work, such as "The Listening Shawl," has gained recognition globally, gracing prestigious platforms like Times Square and international exhibitions. Each piece in this series symbolizes her devotion to bridging differences and celebrating humanity’s collective beauty.
"Metamorphosis" brings together a stunning array of works that capture the complexity and beauty of transformation. Pieces like “The Vine and The Rock” and “The Upside Down Kingdom” reflect her ability to juxtapose strength and fragility, exploring the tension between opposing forces in life. Through the vibrant interplay of sculptural beading, wool felting, and glass aesthetics, Karen’s creations evoke a sense of wonder and introspection.
Central to this exhibition is Mooney’s dedication to promoting change through art. Her use of vivid colors and symbolic forms underscores the richness of diversity, inviting viewers to explore themes of heritage, resilience, and interconnectedness. Works like “My Heart on Drugs” and “Life Goes On” challenge societal norms while fostering dialogue around healing and self-reflection.
The title "Metamorphosis" perfectly encapsulates the essence of this collection. It represents not only the physical transformation of materials but also the emotional and spiritual journeys that unite us as individuals and communities. Karen’s art speaks a universal language—one of love, hope, and the unyielding human spirit.
As you navigate this exhibition, allow yourself to be immersed in its layers, where glass meets fiber, and textures tell stories. "Metamorphosis" is not just an exhibition; it is an experience—a celebration of the unity and beauty that arise from embracing change. Through her art, Karen Mooney reimagines the world as a vibrant mosaic of harmony, inviting us all to find our place within it.

Artist:
Mixed Media best explains my artwork. From 2008-12, I was a student at Salem County Community College. I was fortunate to have Paul Stankard as my professor for 4 years. My degrees are in Fine Art Glass and Studio Arts.
I completed my artwork, Joseph’s Cloak of Many Colors, in 2012. Laura Donofer accepted it
to be worn on the catwalk during her Glass Fashion Show held at the 2012 GAS Conference. The Corning Museum of Fine Art Glass published a book displaying all the pieces. The Renwick Gallery of Smithsonian Art sponsored a show in 2013, during which Fluehr Bressler, a prominent art collector, purchased my cloak. Upon graduation, I volunteered at Wheaton Arts Center doing flameworking demos.
The Listening Shawl was completed in January 2024. Since then, it has been exhibited at SCCC Fine Arts Glass Gallery, over 35 Online Exhibitions, both national and international, included in 6 magazines, and shown in Times Square three times. Recently, I was featured in an interview for the Visual Arts Journal, and my artwork will appear in a solo exhibition sponsored by Biafarin.
I’m working on the third piece of my series, which involves the aesthetics of textiles, wool felting, and sculptural beading.
