Artist:
Amanda Lucek combines traditional handicraft processes, cutting-edge digital tools, and innovative materials to create unexpected beauty through experimentation-and-refinement. Although the eclectic, Illinois-based artist (b. 1983) has a BA in visual arts from Brown University (as well as one in mathematics), subsequent brain damage and memory loss mean that they are a self-taught artist. Only first starting to make art into a career in 2018, they rapidly climbed from selling fractal art at sci-fi conventions to receiving commissions from a national bank and a design agency in 2021. More commissions, awards, and inclusion in gallery exhibits followed. Lucek once said "It is my belief that, to some degree, all art asks to interact with you. Many times, people do not hear the request, however. I try to make art that asks a little louder than most." It seems that people are starting to listen."
