The Still Life, Seen Anew, an international online solo photography exhibition by Coriolana Simon opens on March 20, and will continue through April 22, 2022.

Coriolana's journey in the art world starts with her admiration for the still life paintings by Dutch artists of the 17th century. In her opinion, not only do they give us a detailed view of Dutch culture and society, but they were painted in a style as realistic as photographs.

Now, practicing in the genre known as “history photography,” she uses the art and history of that classic painting tradition as the springboard for a new kind of photography. Her visual vocabulary, approaches to composition, and uses of lighting all bow to the Dutch golden age painters. While never copying a painting, she re-interprets the historic themes, using only objects that would have been appropriate in the 17th century. This contemporary interpretation, based on knowledge of the past, is what brings the still-life to life.
