HERE AND THERE: EXPRESSIONISM

Daile Galerie is proud to announce our forthcoming exhibition titled “HERE AND THERE: EXPRESSIONISM” featuring artists Day Bowman and Paul Kuntze. The exhibition will be opening via our virtual-online viewing room, from the 3rd of July until September 3rd. This exhibition was curated by Rodshir Daile and Adila Ben.

The theme of this exhibition was focused around expressionism, and a new contemporary perspective on the genre of art. HERE AND THERE consists of over 12 astounding works by two amazing artists. The subject matter in which inspired these works vary, but nevertheless will connect with just about any viewer on a deep level.

Day Bowman is a graduate of London University and Chelsea College of Art. Growing up in a holiday destination, seaside town, so it is not surprising that much of Day’s work has referenced the sea and the beach. In her exhibited series of paintings, the canvases echo the marks, lines and shapes that were made in the wet, grey sand of her home town beach: thus the canvas becomes the beach that acted as the canvas of her child-hood.

In 2012 Day was commissioned to produce a series of giant hoardings for Weymouth Railway Station, host town to the Olympic Sailing and Paralympic Sailing Events.  In 2013 she was one of four artists to represent the U.K. at Nord Art Germany and in 2017/18 her work toured four museum galleries in China organised by Contemporary British Painting. More recently Bowman has curated a UK wide tour of Edgelands 2016/17 and Getting Away! 2018 exhibited at Arthouse1 Bermondsey and Quay Arts IOW.

In 2019 she won First Prize in the Anima Mundi Painting Prize established by the Its Liquid Group where her work was on exhibition in the 2019 Venice Biennale; First Prize in the Bath Arts Open and First Prize in the inaugural Wales Contemporary. In 2020 she was awarded the Winsor & Newton Prize for her work in the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours.

Day's solo exhibition Tearing up the Rule Book premiered at The Westminster Reference Library in March 2019 and then toured to the Galerie Atelier Melusine France during September and October 2019.  A conversation between the artist and fellow painter John Stephens was reviewed by Artlyst in October 2019.

The next artist to be exhibited in HERE AND NOW, is Berlin based artist Paul Kuntze. I am an autodidact painter and started in November 2019. His work encompasses a vast range of different approaches. From abstract action painting, to the depiction of emotional situations, the inspiration is broad and multifaceted. It spans from topics such as interpersonal relationships and compulsions and habits, to global destruction and greed. In order to escape from these societal constraints of the world, Paul started to paint because there he could edit out certain emotions and impulses.
