Keil Space opens the autumn season and invites residents and visitors of Florence to a unique Multi Sensory Experience. Keil Space is the world’s first art venue dedicated exclusively to Advanced Art and its applications. Founded by Samantha Keil, a bronze master from a long line of artisans linked to the English Crown, this venue immerses visitors in a true artistic realm. Here, attendees embark on an aesthetic adventure through an experiential landscape. A standout feature of Keil Space is its careful consideration for the observer: the 500-square-meter exhibition area is designed for individual exploration, allowing each person to engage directly with the space and artworks, promoting personal expression and awareness through art.

The experience blends visual, sculptural, and figurative art with sensory elements of sight, smell, and sound, awakening an inner world. The Space stretches across six rooms, each inhabited, or haunted, by a specific mood. Spatial emotions are determined not by what's on the floor, or what hangs from the wall, but by the individual's initial impression. The journey begins in the room of three columns, symbols of Keil’s philosophy, followed by the First Generation Bronze room, which beautifully captures the movement and essence of primordial beings. Next, the Second Generation Bronze room uses light to bridge ancient, present, and future civilizations. The visit culminates with the New Generation Bronze works, where the minuscule details of bronze expand into vast cosmic interpretations, offering new visual stimuli and enhancing visitors’ psycho-physical well-being.

Keil Space’s philanthropic initiative aims to democratize access to artistic dialogue, inviting individuals on a journey of self-discovery and connection to universal values through art. The legacy of Advanced Art merges with innovative technologies to promote introspection and concentration, facilitating emotional release alongside feelings of peace and tranquility. At the end of their visit, guests are encouraged to share brief reflections on their experience. Visitors from diverse backgrounds—social, geographical, linguistic, and professional—have explored the space, expressing a variety of perspectives while often reporting remarkably similar emotional responses. This illustrates a shared connection that transcends individual differences. Many testimonials emphasize feelings of peace, lightness, and tranquility, further affirming the therapeutic benefits inherent in art.

As she creates her art and the immersive experience of Keil Space, Sam Keil draws inspiration from Kandinsky’s ideas and theories. The connection between Wassily Kandinsky and Samantha Keil is rooted in a shared exploration of abstraction, spirituality, and the transformative power of art. Kandinsky's groundbreaking theories have opened new avenues for interpreting art, allowing viewers to find meaning in what might initially seem chaotic. His framework of Line, Point, and Surface transforms clutter into significant forms, inviting individual perception to play a crucial role in interpretation.

Both artists emphasize a spiritual dimension that encourages introspection during both the act of creation and the appreciation of their works. For Kandinsky, spirituality involves approaching art with a childlike perspective—seeing essence unclouded by practicality. This ethos resonates in Keil Space, where visitors are encouraged to shed preconceived notions and engage with art in a way reminiscent of childhood exploration.

Keil's sculpture Lovers, part of her First Generation of Bronzes, aligns with Kandinsky’s ideal of pure art. Art critic Rolando Bellini highlights that the essence of this sculpture lies in its form, which conveys a rich interplay of solids and voids akin to musical rhythms. This synesthetic experience blends visual and auditory sensations, echoing Kandinsky's own explorations of sound and color.

Keil’s artistic journey spans various disciplines, particularly influenced by music theory and the dance innovations of figures like Nijinsky and Nureyev. Central to her practice are the mechanics of music and the perception of time as shaped by movement within exhibition spaces. This dynamic approach reflects Kandinsky's emphasis on the emotional depths that can be conveyed through abstract forms.

Moreover, Kandinsky’s work transcends traditional art fundamentals, offering methodologies that distill essence into geometric forms and primary colors—elements that resonate with viewers on profound levels. Similarly, Keil’s New Generation of Bronzes captures this essence, evoking sensations that reflect a shared emotional landscape between her work and Kandinsky's. Both artists challenge mimesis, revealing intrinsic tensions and sonorities of life through their dynamic compositions.

Kandinsky's innovations extend beyond theoretical frameworks to unique techniques, as evidenced in his 1935 painting Movement 1, which incorporates sand for a grainy texture that evokes a dreamy cosmos. His work breaks from traditional forms to express the spectacle of galaxies and stars. Similarly, Sam Keil's Keil Space offers a multi-sensory experience that fosters a connection with the universe through vibrant colors and innovative artistic mediums. By blending art, science, and technology, Keil enhances Kandinsky's color theories, producing a three-dimensionality that engages multiple senses.

Keil's work oscillates between vivid and dark tones, reflecting life's inherent tensions. Each element is meticulously orchestrated to convey deeper meanings, allowing visitors to experience a sense of inner transformation. Many describe this as awakening primordial energies within them, suggesting a profound connection between her art and the spiritual forces of the cosmos.

Artist ( Description ):

Samantha Keil (b.1965) is an artist from a long line of artisans who worked by appointment to the Crown.
A member of the generation that now governs the art world, Keil received her academic honours under the tutelage of Dame Elizabeth Frink and Sir Roger de Gray, and graduated from the City and Guilds and the Royal Academy of Fine Art.

Working in the ancient tradition of bronze, Keil’s structural compositions are a tool which enables a dialogue between the observer and the observed. In a reversal of the laws of physical reality and of artistic tradition she creates an experiential topography. Without perspective or distance, Keil achieves an oneiric depth that is never out of focus, a dynamic system which can’t be seen but is inescapably felt.

Keil learned the violin under Yehudi Menuhin’s methodology, which incorporated musical theory. Compelled to understand dynamic systems, Keil researched parallels in the artistry of Nijinsky, Nureyev and the Ballets Russes. Inspired by their radical reinterpretation of movement in form, Keil made musical mechanics the underlying factor in the work.
