Chantal Rens presents her solo-exhibition YOU RUN AROUND TOWN LIKE A FOOL AND YOU THINK THAT IT’S GROOVY at SEA Foundation in Tilburg, The Netherlands. The local artist shows analogue collages and prints, new sculptures and interventions in the exhibition space. In addition, there is a book launch. With her artist practice, Chantal Rens joins the theme on Happiness, as one of the 12 chapters of the long-term programme on art and sustainability at the art organisation in Tilburg. YOU RUN [...] is on view from April 16 until May 8, 2022.

The artist practice of Chantal Rens consists mainly of collecting, categorising and reusing source materials. For example, she has piles of old family photos and organised clippings from vintage magazines in her studio. For this exhibition she emphasises the spontaneity of the everyday perception and encounter, such as with a dog on the street or a staring cat in the window. Next to visual artworks, she will present her new artist book with collages YOU RUN AROUND TOWN LIKE A FOOL AND YOU THINK THAT IT’S GROOVY 2. Furthermore, Chantal presents objects that are documented in a remarkable catalogue.

Fold #03 on Happiness

Since 2020, SEA Foundation has been working with a programme that unfolds itself along 12 chapters called folds. In its own way, each fold relates to art and sustainability, and offers possible perspectives for art and life in the future. Happiness, for Chantal, means prioritising the imagination, where thinking is considered secondary. In this way, she can ‘air out the creative process’ - her work usually comes about through coincidence or spontaneity. This lively energy shines through in the work, where the visitor may certainly experience similar moments of surprise or excitement.

Other Info:

SEA Foundation is an artist initiative. Throughout the years, SEA Foundation has become synonymous for exhibitions, residencies and publications. SEA Foundation’s international Artist-in-Residence and public programme for professional artists, curators and writers consider practice support and international exchanges. The foundation momentarily also offers living and working spaces to Ukrainian artists and curators. SEA Foundation works with themes that address sustainability, and makes this visible through contemporary art that interprets and highlights the care for our planet and humanity through different angles. With their work, artists show how our behaviour, regarding attention to detail, is of influence on our experience of happiness, and how these endeavours might facilitate climate distortions.
