mixed Exhibition of Abstract paintings by Carol Wagstaff and ursula kellett.
Carol Wagstaff Born in London, Carol grew up and was educated in Hertfordshire. Following a foundation course at The St Albans School of Art and Design she obtained a BA (Honors) in Fine Art. She has now settled in West Sussex. Carol is a visual artist whose work is difficult to squeeze into a convenient box or genre. From conceptual sculptural installation and painting, to printing and photography, her work has a distinctly elusive quality that resists simple explanation in favor of a more ambiguous, contemplative and oft time’s romantic quality. That said, there is a recurring focus of attention, something underlying her practice, that continues to fascinate and inspire.
Ursula Kellett paintings use dramatically contrasting materials which represent two fundamental opposites: the natural and the artificial. Her work pays homage to the ancient tradition of patchwork. But, rather than relying on traditional textiles, she use a range of conflicting materials - earth, sand, raw pigments, varnishes, prints and paints - collected on her travels. As with a fabric made up of threads, the point is not the individual components, but the whole.
