A-side B-side Gallery is pleased to present, ‘A BLADELESS KNIFE WITH THE HANDLE MISSING’ an exhibition by Rolf.
Rolf’s new paintings investigate the exercise of automatic writing, intended to lay bare the mental matter of the sub-psyche. Fascinated by the process of automatic writing, in which a person words on a page, seemingly without conscious thought, Rolf paints words onto wood, often using a play on words to give a humorous effect.
Evoking a space within a space and a play within a play, encompassing subliminal undertones and conveying a minimalistic approach, Rolf intends to escape confinement by deliberately abandoning and resisting the need or urge to paint picturesque imagery.
