The Batsford Gallery welcomes a brand-new textile art exhibition from 1–8 October!

Forty years ago, a young Fine Art graduate arrived at Gatwick Airport, with minimal baggage, on a travel bursary from her home country of Canada. Anne Kelly continued her studies at Goldsmiths College in London and has been actively involved in textile art ever since.

This exhibition celebrates forty years of stories about travel, memory and family. It also commemorates the launch of her fifth book for Batsford, Textile Portraits.

This stunning exhibition will be running in early October at Batsford’s gallery space on Hackney Road.

Textile Portraits draws upon Kelly’s vast experience to offer insight into the world of textile portraiture. Her approach covers a broad range of techniques, including hand and machine embroidery, quilting and appliqué. It also covers topics such as cultural representation, abstraction, and self-portraiture. The text is illustrated with both her own gorgeous textile work and that of other textile artists from around the world.

Please come along and visit this powerful display of textile art in East London, where there will also be pieces available to purchase.
