Celebrated for its unexpected take on the traditional art fair experience, The Other Art Fair presented by Saatchi Art returns to The Truman Brewery this March, offering switched-on Londoners the chance to buy artwork directly from over 150 incredible emerging talents.

The Fair continues its mission to reframe art, and how it is enjoyed; offering a fair that is inclusive, evocative, and inspiring, with a vibrant programme of exciting features, guest exhibitions, immersive installations, live poetry readings and DJs.

In celebration of March’s International Women’s Day, the Fair is proud to present an impressive 61% female line-up, championing some of the most exciting emerging female talents working today, continuing its ongoing mission to strive for gender parity in the art world. 64% are UK based artists and 11% BIPOC creators. 48% of the artist line-up are London based.

The March edition of the Fair will include several female-focused features including a site-specific entrance installation created by The Sistxrhood, Glastonbury’s female, non-binary and trans venue and specially created for The Truman Brewery space.

There will be drop-in workshops throughout the weekend hosted by Collage Club, a workshop series celebrating the art of cutting and sticking! Embracing hands-on techniques and using scissors as a drawing tool, Collage Club is perfect for anyone keen to flex their creative muscles and get making without having to produce perfectly proportioned, boring drawings. Each themed session is packed with top notch magazines, colourful paper, shapes, and tapes for participants to rip, snip, glue and stick into something brand new.

The program will also feature a bespoke installation by the gender-defying, sustainability-led, streetwear brand TOMME. With a global fanbase including Billie Eilish, TOMME strives to empower its buyers by transforming the male-dominated stereotyping of sportswear, creating basketball bags that confidently express a unisex aesthetic. These one-of-a-kind repurposed basketball bags will be available to purchase alongside the installation.

Female tattoo artist Ally Ink specialises in an elegant and expressive fine line style of tattooing. Dedicating her work to an innate and eclectic love of music, Ally strives to bridge the worlds of tattoo art and music through her project ‘From Song to Skin’. Appointments will be available throughout the weekend.

The Fair’s charity partner Karmabank presents Refugee Art Works (RAW) a new multinational collective of female refugee artists & craft makers, drawn together for mutual support & creative development. They will exhibit artworks created by female refugee artists from Ukraine, Afghanistan, Iran, Syria, and Saudi Arabia. Through RAW, Karmabank provides micro grants to help displaced artists fleeing war and other abuses re-establish themselves.

The Other Art Fair presented by Saatchi Art is a global platform gathering creative thinkers, pleasure seekers and game-changing artists to share unforgettable experiences. The artist-led fair combines boundary-pushing yet always affordable artworks with live features and curious encounters; previous iterations have included interactive theatre, taxidermy classes, experiential dining, and incredible renowned guest artists.

A committee of art industry experts have chosen some of the most notable rising stars for this March edition, with a focus on women creators to watch and art forms that look beyond the traditional, including Helen Hillyard, curator at the Dulwich Picture Gallery and art historian, curator and consultant Carrie Scott.

Artist ( Description ):

London based oil painter Sarah Lim-Murray, whose evocative figurative paintings seek to capture an emotion or moment in time, Peruvian artist and muralist Gisella Stapleton who uses materials ranging from recycled fabrics to organic pigments and embroidery threads to create works that explore themes surrounding elements of nature, land, fertility, relaxation, self-care and self-love.

Ukrainian artist and illustrator Katalin Macevics creates simple, beautiful works that celebrate the beauty of womanhood and the female form. Carrie Jean Goldsmith uses various media to create both abstract and loosely representation artwork, that is both compelling and ambiguous and always with a glimmer of light.

London figurative painter Rod Kitson will painting live portraits in real time at the Fair as part of his ongoing portraiture project. Each sitting will take two hours and by the close of the Fair he will have created a mini gallery of visitor portraits, all painted from life, in oil paint. Also on display in his booth are many other portraits from the 350-painting series which he has been working on since 2019. It will form an exhibition in June this year called Where Are We Now. The portraits created at the fair will also go into the exhibition.

British photographer Samuel Ryde’s intriguing photography celebrates bathroom hand dryers as an object of great beauty. Los Angeles artist Ragni Argawal creates vibrant mixed media works that seek to reflect the dark and light inside each of us, exploring mental health, body (dis)illusions, self-destructive thoughts, and behaviours. Driven by a pop art aesthetic and bold colours, the underlying theme in her work is inclusion and the celebration of all types of beauty.

Belgian artist Catherine Vermaut’s ethereal paintings evoke vulnerability, transience, youthfulness, and the loss of it. Photographer Lena Konstantakou grew up in Greece before moving to London. Her beautiful pictures explore the intuitive connection between habitat, existence, and wellbeing.

Figurative painter Karen Turner was awarded the VAA Professional Artist Award 2022. Focusing on the physical body, and the scrutiny to which it is subjected, Karen’s paintings explore what society expects of a woman, the ways in which a woman’s shape is often considered to define her, and the impact that this has on her life and sense of self.
