Shemchuk’s large-scale mixed media paintings are created with layers of household paint and collaged paper that are abraded and ripped. His compositions dance with gestures, calligraphic marks and symbols. This exhibit includes his ‘surface tension’ works on paper, resulting from a unique process for painting with paper using pressure and water to print colors dissolved from different papers. Visitors will help create the resulting work by walking on top of a Plexiglas covered pathway of paper and water in the gallery from Dec. 11-13th.
