KP Projects is proud to present The Patch, oil paintings by Masakatsu Sashie.

Masakatsu Sashie is well known for his intricately painted spheres that exist as self-contained worlds in which the circle of life exists. The collapse of temporal space embodies globalism and a universal sense of being - both physically and philosophically.

These vistas are often rendered as levitating orbs above landfills or cities in the distance, an amalgam of the remnants of human existence. As an artist with a deep appreciation for handmade things, Sashie finds beauty in design – man made or organic, natural or artificial, seeing detritus as an extension of mankind and our evolution. An intricate combination of retro and sci-fi, the artist’s creations appear to hover gracefully between the worlds of a nostalgic past and a potentially dystopian future. Billboards, vending machines, fast food signs, building facades and video game iconography create a global time capsules of mass culture and value systems.

“Nothing is made by humans completely from scratch. We are constantly searching through our limited resources to create, form and constitute what’s necessary for us to advance as a human race. And as time changes through our history, the structure of our human needs changes and reshapes itself constantly... The never-ending process of creation and destruction is just another part of natural phenomenon that we continually face from the past to present day.

It is a limited space within which the circle of life exists. The size of the world to an individual varies depending on one’s imagination and determination.”

 – Masakatsu Sashie

The Patch, Masakatsu’s newest body of work, explores contemporary culture formed by a patchwork of everyday life to create a continuum of past to present to the future. This continuing cycle of dynamic transformations is like the colorful refractions found looking through the lens of a kaleidoscope.

Masakatsu Sashie received his MFA from the Kanazawa College of Art in 2000 and has exhibited throughout Asia and the United States. His work is included in private and corporate collections around the world.
