Post Waste:  Curatorial Statement by Tracey Weiss (Catalog available)

Post Waste is an exhibition of artwork that is made predominantly, if not solely, from post consumer waste. The artists all use these non traditional materials in inventive and often whimsical ways to not only speak about the materials themselves, but at the same time with a consciousness of the environmental, social and political impact that those substances carry.

Artist Statement

Simple commonplace objects, such as a spoon, a potholder, or a woven basket

fascinate me.  The allure could be from their shape, function, or history, along with the layers of associations that emerge from the context of their familiarity. My sculptures and paintings are based on re-contextualizing and transmuting everyday forms to emphasize how multi-faceted and informative the ordinary can be.
