"Around, Again" showcases local photographers Ian Kramar and Sean IssoFresh Hernandez and their exploration of repetition and manipulation in their whimsical portrayals of friends, family, and most of all, their beloved home, New Orleans. From in-camera glitches to carefully constructed tiny planet-like panoramas, the work takes form in a diverse array of colors, sizes, and textures.

Ian Kramar’s investigation of experimental photography began pre-app era with homemade and modified cameras as the tools to create what he calls “happy accidents.” The colorful and often surreal images of controlled chaos capture an intimate, vibrant side of New Orleans. In the artist’s words, “I’m talking about lens flares, light leaks, imperfections in the lenses, and distortions created by the outsized dimensions of the cameras themselves, all reshaping the light between the world we see and all share, and the silver particles emulsified in the film.”

Sean IssoFresh Hernandez’s panoramas and “tiny planets” have the feel of this world and yet are connected to some other dreamlike plane. Born and raised in New Orleans, Sean has been influenced by the vibrancy and creative spirit of the city from the start. His meditations upon the micro/macrocosmic schema in both our inner and outer worlds come through in his use of repetitive mandala like imagery. A true multi-media artist whose creative outlets range from professional photography to being an active member of local art collective Krewe of MothaRoux, Sean has found the photographic tools that provide a way to carry forth his metaphorical ideas centered around the all-encompassing circle.

In a time when our tools and resources for creating art can be contained in a small, accessible device, this show seeks to explore the ways in which artists reinvent ever-evolving mediums and play with perspectives, both personal and shared, of the city and world around us.

The gallery will host an Arts and Activism Fundraiser to benefit DiscoveryFEST on December 17th from 7 to 9pm. More details coming soon!
