Habitat

This exhibition is the first collaboration between Lithuanian-American artist Sigita R. Praneviciene and Thai-American artist Yupin Pramotepipop.

Their works will be on view at SLA Art Space from March 10–31, 2023

The name of the exhibition is Habitat. This is because the space of this gallery becomes the habitat where the different styles of these two artists come together; the light and magic of Sigita’s prints reflect off the strength and symbolism of Yupin’s creations. The viewer can wander in between the different works, taking in the interplay of feelings and ideas from one work to the next.

In her prints, Sigita Rucinskaite-Praneviciene combines more than one printmaking method - the drypoint etching technique with monotype in order to achieve unique textural color qualities on paper, and woodblock printing using reduction to achieve a multilayered hue scape. 

Her art pieces are the narrative of the year 2022 and amount to the perpetual play with technique, color, and shapes while reflecting on the passing days and events; they incorporate her observations from the Botanical Gardens, city streets, and the stream of news of war and destruction.

Yupin Pramotepipop creates her works from partially overlooked materials, from collected waste/unused white FGR plaster and fragile, natural materials such as pines cones and pine needles. Some of her works are very simple while others are complex.

Her art can be purely visual, but can also show personal expressions, bonding relationships, and love and peace. She starts some works without planning by putting down the elements in order by size and arranging them with curvatures; other works are created to symbolize family and sometimes each element might represent one family member.
