Reprisal & Rediscovery

September 7 - September 28, 2021

Opening Reception: September 9, 2021 6-8 PM

Agora Gallery is proud to announce Reprisal & Rediscovery, a collective exhibition which will take place between September 7 and 28, 2021. The show features work by seasoned and budding artists, ranging in styles from Pop Art, Modernism, Impressionism, and Naturalism.

As we resurge from the challenges of the past year, twelve artists look to the future with fresh eyes of hope. Offering much-needed escape for our debilitated souls, they explore different avenues of healing; whether through psychological exploration, closeness to nature, or recollections of times past. Ellen Globokar’s Japanese paper collages emanate the soothing beauty of marine sunsets; a complement to Mauricio Valdiviezo’s idyllic renditions of the Ecuadorian Andes and Dojoong Jo’s thoughtfully-crafted soil paintings. Jerry Anderson’s undulating lines exalt the exquisite complexity of all life forms; while Hawaii native Stephanie Pitoy presents visually compelling pieces blending urban architecture and lush floral compositions. Other artists, like Salome Chelidze, Maisoon Al Saleh, and Rody, look to history for succor. Chelidze and Al Saleh do so by revisiting their cultural heritage; while Rody conveys the lighthearted jubilation of 1920s Paris. Finally, Josefina de León, Jenny Blomquist, David Syre, and Graciela Garza turn inward for answers; instilling a sense of empowerment, joy, and serenity with bold splashes of color or minimalist soft-toned compositions. As a collective, they reprise old forms with a new perspective and look forward with a sense of faith and optimism.
