Cheryl Ekstrom
Setting Forth

Seattle, WA – Never has ambiguity been dressed in so much detail as it has in the new work by Seattle artist Francesca Sundsten.  Sundsten is a purposeful painter.  Each mark in every piece serves to evoke a mood, elicit a response and craft a hunger for resolution.   Elements within the painted surface serve to tilt otherwise serene scenarios and depict the subjects in such a manner that both their intention and presence is mystified.   The value of the work is held in perpetuity by the wonderfully perplexed state in which the viewers find themselves.   It is the gift imparted by the artist and the reason no Northwest art collection is complete without one of her works.

Cheryl Ekstrom fears very little.  Scale, weight, complication and time are no match for the determination and skill of this life-long artist now in her seventies.  One may think that an artist of her generation may be slowing down.  This would be misguided.  Ekstrom’s hair, not red, but a shade of rocket exhaust, is a visual reminder of the force and passion with which she approaches her work.  The artist’s sculptures often have the scale of entire rooms and both the physical and emotional weight to match. Even her smallest works evoke immensity, a feeling of strength born from a career spanning three decades.

LA LA LA
Group Exhibition

Bellevue, WA- In April Hall Spassov Gallery presents LA, LA, LA, Art from Los Angeles, a group exhibition of gallery artists from in and around Los Angeles.  Why?  LA is damn near the antithesis of the Northwest and while we love our home, everyone loves to put the top down every once in a while.  Weather aside, LA offers a vastly different landscape and attitude that lends itself to a more aggressive aesthetic and a louder color palette than what we are accustomed to in the Pacific Northwest.

Featured will be Jeff Peters’ dreamlike landscapes filled with glossy flora and fauna and Ellwood Risk’s aggressive, target riddled works that conjure up a bit of the sex and danger while beautifully bridging the gap between pop and street art.  Cheryl Ekstrom’s sculpture works are of staggering beauty and live on the border where collected vintage and pristine modernism meet.

Join us in our Bellevue location as we introduce LA, LA, LA, Art from Los Angeles, on April 1st 2015 from 5-8PM and continuing through May 31st, 2015.
