J. Mane Gallery is pleased to present its 4th Abstracts International Online Juried Art Exhibition.

Abstraction finds its roots in ‘intuition’ (of the artist) and ‘freedom’ (for the artist as well as for the viewer). It is the capability of the artist to use their imagination to look beyond what we can physically see and translate intangible emotions onto the canvas. It is also the ability of the audience to then try to connect to the artist’s intention and free their own mind of visual restrictions. Historically, the abstract art movement emerged in the nineteenth century as a reaction to academic painting or realism. In fact, a very simple way to understand the essence of abstract art is to think of it as a visual opposite of realistic art. While realism pays attention to every tiny fold or wrinkle, abstraction gives the artist the freedom to trust their intuition to create art that is equally worthy of an audience.

We invited artists to submit work that best represents abstract art.  All artists over the age of 18, regardless of location or experience, were encouraged to submit their best art and photography. We received over 200 entries from 7 different countries.

Each of our themed exhibitions, awards for First, Second and Third Place.  The First Place winner for our 4th Abstracts show is Du Huaiyi. Du’s excellent command of the medium, composition and unique interpretation of the theme is what set his work apart. Du is also the Featured Artist for the next four weeks.

Taking Second Place is Gabriela De Paz for her watercolor, Blue Place. Gabriela’s ability to use colors and textures to their best visual strength and to create a sound composition from these elements are excellent. And, Third Place goes to Wen Redmond for her mixed media, Net.  The calming colors and movement created by the image creates an abstract world.

Honorable Mention awards were given as well. The body of work was found to encourage involvement and imagination. This art is mostly about providing its viewers with an intangible and emotional experience. Honorable Mention awards go to Estelle Asmodelle for her acrylic painting, Harmonious Embrace, Yvon Jolivet for his digital image, Floating Flowers, Elizabeth Kayl for her photograph, Swelter, Bob McCormac for his digital image, Toothache, Sarah Simmerman for her acrylic painting, Erosion, Fabienne Sowa-Dobkowski for her digital photo, Strates, Golfo Tsukamis for his Untitled painting and Britain Walston for her acrylic on panel, Interdimensional. Please visit the Monthly Winners Page to learn more about each of these award winning artists and to contact them directly about their work.

The remaining artists included in the exhibition serve as an example of impressive talent and we are honored to showcase their artwork on the J. Mane Gallery website.

We thank all the competition participants.
