Michael Prior
Slow Air
Comprised of sculptural devices, sound and video elements, Michael Prior's immersive installation Slow Air, focuses on the unseen forces at play, composing them into layers of sounds and gestures with actions and reactions, causes and consequences. Applying playful spontaneity to the material, objects are activated to create a network of rhythm, gestures and relationships.

Artist ( Description ):

Michael Prior uses materials in unexpected ways to create self-generating compositions of motion and sound. Elements emerge from a process of play, improvising with materials to explore their innate properties. Prior investigates the behaviour of the object rather the object itself, uncovering universal patterns.

Prior’s recent projects include a garden of solar powered works for the Nepean School, built in 2015, and an installation Elastic Organum for the Heide Museum of Modern Art in 2014. In the same year he was shortlisted for ACMI’s Ian Potter Moving Image Commission and won the Incinerator Award: Art for Social Change for work in keeping with the ideals of Marion Mahony and Walter Burley Griffin. Prior has collaborated regularly as Chronox with Lachlan Conn, and with Tape Projects, producing installations, publications and performances. He also runs an art space from his studio on Bouverie St. Carlton, VIC.
