Artist's Improvisations, an international online solo painting exhibition by Richard Mittelstadt opens on November 15 and will continue for two months until January 15, 2024.
Richard Mittelstadt discovered that he can enjoy the process of acrylic painting as well as the final product while not feeling as though he had missed attaining a certain standard of technical skill or mastery of materials. Over the past several years his style has changed but not his intent, love of expressing his imagination, or his interpretation of nature. The strength of his abstract or non-objective acrylic paintings relies on his personal voice and how well he uses the elements and principles of design in the compositions.

Since childhood, Rick was always interested in mark making especially mechanical drawing. With such a strong mechanical aptitude, Rick envisioned his future in architecture. That changed in college when he was encouraged by his older sister to take a few art courses.
After changing his major, he graduated with a BS degree in Art Education and a Masters Degree in Studio Art. During his 38 years in teaching middle and high school art education, Rick created and sold watercolor paintings in numerous outside art and craft fairs. After retiring from teaching he switched his painting medium to acrylics. In the past several years Rick has had numerous indoor exhibitions and won many awards for his acrylic paintings.
For many years while still finding time to paint, Rick had volunteered his time as treasurer for four non-profit art organizations. Nowadays Rick focus on painting, camping trips, and yard/garden work.
