Pattern, Form and Texture, an international online photography exhibition by Scott Ward opens on August 01 and will continue through August 31, 2021.

Scott Ward rarely took photos with an obvious focal point, as he is seeking to highlight underlying pattern, form, or texture in his subject, and when possible, to link his images to some theme of social justice or ecological awareness.

Artist ( Description ):

Though photography has been a part of my life since I was a child, it has operated in the background of my career as a financial manager, largely a private affair, existing solely for my own enjoyment of the world around me. It wasn’t until an unexpected change in my professional status in 2016 that I decided the time was ripe to pursue a more formal manifestation of my avocation.

I chose the name Beartown Road Design for my artistic endeavors as an homage to my father’s birthplace, a small poultry farm located on that road, in Painted Post, New York; a location at which I spent many youthful summers with my family, where I learned to appreciate the subtle beauty of the rolling hills of rural New York.

I rarely now take photos with an obvious focal point, seeking to highlight underlying pattern, form, or texture in my subject, and when possible, to link my images to some theme of social justice or ecological awareness.

I live with my wife and son in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Other Info:

Determining that there was little I could add to the existing photographic record of landscape photography, I have sought to identify which particular niche I might occupy in the community of photographers.

Upon considerable reflection, I adopted two taglines, “Part of a Bigger Picture” and “Look Beyond the Edges.”

I rarely now take photos with an obvious focal point, so as to encourage the eye to wander over the entire image and allow the viewer to take an individual journey of discovery about what the image might say to them.

Becoming alarmed at what I perceived to be society’s narrowing focus on issues to only that which personally impacts themselves, I have also tried to link my images to some larger social issue to which they may be related. The idea being that, as any specific image I produce is part of a larger landscape, so are we part of a larger community, and we all benefit from taking a closer look, or looking beyond the edges, to that which is beyond ourselves.
