Wolfgang Neumann FLASHLIGHT & BLACKOUT
Paintings and drawings
8 March – 4 May 2014
Wolfgang Neumann paints, draws, writes and sings. His song lyrics, German art historian Tilman Osterwold explains, "are observant, self-reflexive, and combinative; they provide a possible key for trying to appreciate and understand the rich visual oeuvre of this artist who inspires us in such a complex fashion".
"The visit to Wolfgang Neumann's studio", Osterwold relates, "made the ambivalence in the temperatures of his paintings especially clear. At first sight, the climate of his works seems harsh, but at the same time, a sensitive warmth pervades them. The sensitive nuances hide in the blunt temperaments of a pictorial world that can be weak or aggressive, close-meshed or expansive, whose 'empty abundance' seeks and looses itself in terms of composition and media: a kind of chaotic new ordering…"
The visit to our gallery reveals to the art lover a plethora of new paintings and drawings, a large-sized digital drypoint – and a mural painted by Wolfgang Neumann exclusively for this exhibition on the gallery's largest wall. Those who participate in the opening enjoy in addition a music-performance: The artist and his band ART-ATTACKE give a concert.
An exhibition catalogue is in preparation.
