Hana Noorali and Lynton Talbot have invited London-based Am Nuden Da to exhibit at CHELSEA space in spring 2017. A collaboration between three artists, Am Nuden Da have been publishing online and exhibiting since 2008. Their work incorporates writing, curating, art and publishing through a programme of exhibitions and projects that muddle the roles within contemporary art. Often made in collaboration with other artists their exhibitions address the commonly polarised hierarchies of facilitator and agitator.
Assuming the very structures of exhibition making as a material, Am Nuden Da obsessively manage public relations and exhibition contexts, producing more-or-less made up situations which they and their collaborators inhabit and act within. Their material output, typically self-framed within highly controlled pieces of language, can be read as a decoy for broader practices to take place around.
Their recent project ‘Let’s Not Dispute The Useless. …’ and its framing through the invented term “agreed on fictions”, brings attention to their nuanced use of fiction within the de facto expectations of institutional activities. As with much of their work, it is the ambiguity at play – somewhere between what is immediately apparent, and what is suggested in the language surrounding the event – that is revealing.
Once wise to their strategies concerning authenticity and fiction, one might ask: what form will a retrospective by Am Nuden Da take, and who will it involve?
