Diane Simpson / Lesley Vance

Lesley Vance (b. 1977, Milwaukee, WI) lives and works in Los Angeles. Working in both oil on linen and sometimes watercolour, she photographs compositions of natural forms that she creates in her studio, these become starting points for her paintings. The paint is worked into intimate, luminous shapes, wet-on-wet, often against darkened backgrounds. Her work is recognisable as the product of an intensified intuition of space and form. The Herald St show is comprised of a series of new oil on linen paintings.

Diane Simpson lives and works in Chicago. Her work is primarily comprised of sculpture and preparatory drawings that evolve from a diverse range of sources, including clothing, utilitarian objects and architecture. The material she uses in her sculpture, wood, perforated metals, linoleum, fabric, reflect her interest in the coexistence of the industrial and domestic sphere. The work shown at Herald St spans a period from 1983 – 2014 and will include both drawings and sculpture.
