Independent Dance Crossing Borders Talks 2014 - Sara Wookey

City:

Categories:

The Crossing Borders talks feature UK and international practitioners, whose work understands movement and embodiment through a variety of different forms, and invites them to share their process and practice.

This year’s series explores the different ways of working and thinking through the body. The programme will touch on themes such as contexts of art practice, self-censorship, contemporary psychoanalysis, and the wider concerns of how we live together.

Sara Wookey | 18th November | 7-8.30pm

Sara is interested in the ways that performance and publics interact and, more specifically, how dance enlivens the social in intimate, playful and engaging ways. In this Crossing Borders evening she will present some of her recent projects and prompt musings around what dance can be, modes of working as a dance artist across varying spatial contexts - such as civic public spaces and private museum spaces - while prompting discussions and engaging questions. Having recently relocated to London from the States Sara brings her cross-continental experiences and perspectives to this program.

Sara Wookey is a choreographer with an interest in the way that performance and publics interact. Her work is informed by her training in American Post-Modern Dance, European Dance-Theater and Laban Movement Analysis. Parallel to her creative practice Sara speaks and writes on issues of economy and value in dance. Sara is often asked to consult on dance presentation and archive in the museum and on public engagement with cultural institutions and government agencies. She is a certified teacher of Yvonne Rainer's seminal dance work "Trio A" (1966) and a practicing square dance caller.
