Merlin Ramos
There’s a certain quality of Ramos’s paintings that would attract the viewer to look at the elusive, dream-like imagery for a prolonged period of time. With many classical references embedded in his oeuvre, one can surprisingly find a mixture of a variety of different vibrant brushstrokes. Arrangements of seemingly innocuous objects from daily life suddenly stir up a sense of mystique and serenity, as if inviting the audience to ponder about the little details we miss while rushing to somewhere unimportant.
“My work represents a collection of moments, everyday minutiae that make up the contents of the day – but become important enough to remember. So if for example if you are walking home and notice there is a new building in construction giving a view across somewhere you would never be able to see previously or a route you took home that you never would normally, (and what you saw when doing so), all of these elements build to create something worth painting for me.” Said the artist.
