Agora Gallery is pleased to present the 2017 selected artists of the Chelsea International Fine Art Competition. Now in its 32nd year, the competition has a rich history of recognizing exciting new talent from all over the world. This year's participants display a growing social awareness, an eager curiosity of spatial and tonal questions, and outstanding technical skill.

Included are several incisive photographers who document contemporary urban, exurban, and completely wild places with compassion and respect. One selected sculptor gives life to outsized and fantastic shapes. There is a wide range of painting on display, including pieces whose abstraction is so subtle that it verges on something more like stylization. There is also a palpable return to hyperrealism, with several impeccably realized still lifes and portraits that dare the viewer to do a double-take. Among the displayed works is a feeling of rediscovery of the hand-wrought craft of art in an increasingly digital world.

The exhibition opens August 19, 2017 and runs through August 30, 2017 with an opening reception on Saturday, August 19 from 6-8 pm. Entrance is free.
