Opening:
Friday, 4 May 2018 - 7:00pm to 10:00pm

Inspired by the vast and ever-changing landscapes of this enchanting island, Jean Larson’s paintings reflect the complex and intriguing worlds she discovered while exploring Iceland.  The gnarled casts of once molten rocks disgorged from deep within the earth, ancient lichens and luxuriant mosses of improbable shades of green all thrive in the extremes of the sub-Arctic climates.  In each, we enter a world of endless possibilities. Larson invites the viewer to quietly observe, as she does, and find their own meaning in these images.

A native of Northern Michigan, Jean Larson, discovered painting on the shores of Lake Michigan as a teen and it became an obvious choice for her career path. After graduating from Central Michigan University, demand for Larson's work led to her setting up a small studio in Traverse City in which she paitned and exhibitied her work. After moving to Boston in 1984, Larson gained national and international attention for her paintings. Larson has since traveled extensively, her paintings inspired by the lcoation and people surrounding her. Larson now spends her time between New York, Iceland, Northern Michigan and Africa.
