Hans Burkhardt

Jack Rutberg Fine Arts will present “Collectible” - an exhibition of more than 50 museum quality paintings, drawings, prints and sculpture. Contemporary and modern works spanning a half century will offer the collector and institution an impressive range of monumental and intimate scale works for acquisition. "Collectible" opens with a reception Saturday, March 14 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the exhibition extending through June 6, 2015.

Notable works in the exhibition will include an installation by the evocative contemporary Spanish artist Jordi Alcaraz whose unique vision has drawn particular recent international attention. Rare paintings by the major Irish artist Patrick Graham will be on view following their recent national museum tour. The exhibition offers a rare opportunity to engage one of Hans Burkhardt's most important works - his provocative 1975 painting, “La Brea Tar Pits” –depicting the Los Angeles County Museum. This monumental painting, with its extraordinary paint handling and composition has been cited as a tour de force in Abstract Expressionism.

Among the many highlights of "Collectible" will be a grouping of Latin American Masters including Diego Rivera, Roberto Matta, Gunther Gerzso, Francisco Zúñiga, Alfredo Ramos Martinez, Gustavo Montoya, and Rufino Tamayo.

This far-ranging exhibition includes rare, unique photographs by Ed Ruscha and select photographs by Joel-Peter Witkin, as well as formidable paintings and drawings by Jerome Witkin. Sculpture will include those by Reuben Nakian, Franicsco Zúñiga and Gaston Lachaise as well as Jordi Alcaraz' surreal “Ideas of Sculpture” from 2013, and Claire Falkenstein’s intricate enameled 21 ½ foot metal sculpture “Chain,” circa 1963.

Also included are works by George Condo, Jerome Witkin, Ruth Weisberg, Bruce Richards, Ed Moses, Norman Bluhm, Stanley Boxer, Max Ernst, Sam Francis, Frank Gehry, Mark Tobey, Ed Kienholz, Ed Moses, Roy Lichtenstein, Christo, Antoni Tapies and Eduardo Chillida.

“Collectible” extends from March 14 through June 6, 2015 at Jack Rutberg Fine Arts located at 357 North La Brea Avenue in Los Angeles. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. For further information phone: 323 938-5222 or email jrutberg@jackrutbergfinearts.com
