James Clifton is director of the Sarah Campbell Blaffer Foundation and curator in Renaissance and Baroque painting at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. He earned his doctorate at Princeton University with a dissertation on Neapolitan painting of the 17th century. Clifton has curated exhibitions, written film scripts, and published widely on the arts of early-modern Europe.
