Italy, Milano. On Tuesday June 27th, Lucio Forte's solo exhibition opens at the iKonica Art Gallery, New York Views, focused on a painting interpretation of the city of New York.
About twenty works of small, medium and large dimensions are on display, including Indian ink drawings, watercolours, oil paintings, digital art and limited edition prints.
Various themes are treated, from cinema, to historic buildings and aerial views of the Big Apple.
These cityscapes from above show how a part of the earth's surface is characterized by a complex and extensive extremely geometric conformation.
The exhibition is open every day from 4 pm to 8 pm.
Inauguration with refreshments on Friday 14, 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm.
Via Porpora 16/A, Milano. Free entry. info@ikonica.eu
Critical text
The 'New York Views' project was born in 2018 with a first ink drawing representing the New York State Supreme Court.
The image was reproduced from a shot frame from the film Kramer vs. Kramer. Is an external view of the building of the court, that opens the scene of a hearing involving the protagonists.
Other oil, watercolor and ink works have been taken from other films, such as The Warriors, Serpico, Motherless Brooklyn, Three days of the condor, Escape from New York or from comics.
Such as the watercolor reproduction of a cover of The Amazing Spiderman which came out in February 1974.
Here is represented an acrobatic Spider-Man among the skyscrapers of Manhattan.
Finally, some aerial views from 1955 and 2020, realized in oil and watercolor, are on display.
In these aerial cityscapes of New York, we see articulations of interconnected, interpenetrating volumes stacked on top of each other, in all their complexity and extent.
If we set aside the concept of the artificial for a moment, we can think of the construction of cities as a natural expression of a natural being, man.
A natural conformation, on the surface of a planet, characterized by such a complexity of Euclidean geometries, parallelepipeds, cylinders, domes, lattices, orthogonal meshes is perhaps one of the most incredible things that can be found in the Universe.
