The Brick Lane Gallery is excited to present ABSTRACT ART, a group exhibition showcasing the diversity and variety of modes of abstraction through the works of local and international artists. The exhibition explores key elements of geometric, lyrical and natural abstraction, also offering a view of the various methods of producing an abstract piece and applying paint to a surface, alternately emphasizing or suppressing traces of the artist’s touch.

Lanella Tello works on a fantasy analogy about the mind and all the different shapes of the way humans process information. The continuous movement of decisions, tastes, and perceptions of the human brain inspire her. She enjoys the projection of the different types of mental aesthetics with a great variety of colors. Her purpose at creating each painting is to replicate a kind of brain that our society has. At the moment, she is working with her cultural background with Mexican people. Nat Coalson’s ‘Ignes Fatui’ is named after the Latin term for will-o-the-wisp. The series is comprised of abstract photographs created by moving the camera during long exposures. Each image is a straight photograph, with minimal enhancement, that portrays the movement of time unseen by the human eye. Wendy Muir interrogates the story of red from its cultivation as cochineal extracted from the body of beetles, to its discovery by conquistadors in the new Americas of the 16th century in her series “Spanish Red” Red is used to describe part desire, part visionary passion in Spanish exploration; it follows the “colourmen” as they sold carmine pigment to artists.

All these artists contribute through their works to our understanding of the relevance and evolution of abstraction in contemporary art.

You are warmly invite you to join us for a drink with the artists at the opening night of ABSTRACT ART at The Brick Lane Gallery open from 6pm-8.30pm on Wednesday 11th November 2015.
