Roman Road is delighted to host Mango Stone, a solo exhibition by British multimedia artist Harry Jones. Featuring new and never-before-seen works created by the artist this year, the show presents a vibrant collection of oil paintings and sculptural pieces exploring and responding to the vibratory interactions and intersections between art, music and words.

Interweaving personal and cultural histories together, Jones’s practice can be seen as a form of multidimensional storytelling, a poetic and expressive form of social commentary. Symbolic objects, reoccurring motifs, figurative characters, logos, memes and lyrics all gather and feature heavily in his compositions, transpiring and sparking dialogues about societal issues and the shared human experience.

Melody has an innate ability to tether lyrics together, to frame words in a certain way and time to enhance their message and meaning. For Jones, the background of a painting works in a similar way; through use of colour and its application, he explores synapses and achieves a transformative place where ideas, memories or drawings can be reframed and enriched, leaving a lasting imprint upon viewers’ perceptions and emotions. With this way of working and by synthesising songwriting and art, Jones has developed a unique visual language and a form of self-expression that serves as a means of catharsis while reflecting on the demands of the modern world.

Harry Jones’s Mango Stone opens on Friday 01 September from 6- 8 PM and will be on display at Roman Road through 24 September 2023. On the occasion of the exhibition, a special music performance and closing event will be taking place at the gallery during the evening of Saturday 23 September, the penultimate day of the show.
