A thought-provoking and powerful film by video and performance artist Marina Landia, with a soundtrack by Kristjan Järvi, this piece explores the concept of crisis as a normal state of affairs.
In 2008, the world was turned upside down by a series of economic events that went on to have a hugeimpact around the world. The effects of this are still being felt today, and Landia’s work investigates the changes in the Western economic system and their social consequences.
Featuring intimate interviews with prominent global executives and policy-makers such as Xavier Rolet, CEO of London Stock Exchange, Steve Forbes of Forbes Media and Secretary General of OECD Angel Gurria amongst others, the film explores the state of mind of people in leadership in today’s uncertainpolitical and economic times. Kristjan Järvi’s stunning soundtrack features works from Dutch pianist and composer Louis Andriessen, The National’s Bryce Dessner and Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood, as well as Järvi himself.
The film has a format of a cantata where protagonists are presented as soloists and are accompanied by a powerful orchestral music score. An interplay between the spoken word and music creates a rhythmic and emotional narrative unusual for this type of content.
At a time when established concepts are being constantly challenged, this investigation provides an unorthodox perspective on the state of today’s economy and the direction that it may take tomorrow. With following discussion chaired by economist and former treasury advisor Diane Coyle this promises a thought provoking evening.
