America Martin | Solo Show

Country:

Categories:

On Saturday, May 2nd, the Wally Workman Gallery will open its 3rd solo show with artist America Martin. Her work evokes classical and indigenous forms reminiscent of the Impressionists and Modernists of the early 20th century. This exhibit is inspired by the imagery of folk tales & classic myths, created in a variation of materials. Martin finds joy in the re-telling of these stories, and in the process has discovered a lexicon through which she has created her own allegory. A concentration on line and flat color reduces her subjects to their simplest forms and yet challenges our tools of perception. Her accomplished confidence in mark making and gesture is clearly that of a dedicated and prolific artist. Represented across the county and internationally collected, Martin continues to impress audiences with her bold work.
