ampersand international arts is thrilled to announce two solo exhibitions opening Friday, September 15th 2017. LineWork by Amos Goldbaum & Just Say When by Carey Lin are simultaneous solo shows examining intersecting forms and figures. Having been featured in different group shows with ampersand international arts in the past, the gallery is honored to have them each return to spotlight their new works.

Native San Franciscan, Amos Goldbaum, presents his first solo show LineWork. LineWork is a departure from his better known murals and apparel depicting historic Bay Area landscapes, while continuing to develop and master his signature line drawing and painting techniques. Goldbaum highlights a linear simplicity of negative space and tone, juxtaposing detailed, often microscopic, pops of rainbows, liquid, and flesh-like substances. The acrylic, gouache, and pen on paper scrolls, intertwine images of biological matter, industrial machinery, and subtle historic vignettes from the past, present, and future, bordering on surreal and science-fiction.

Just Say When, by San Francisco-based artist Carey Lin, is part of an ongoing study of imagery from a number of found sources. Lin creates colorful abstract paintings, flattening and overlapping the patterns and textures she encounters that are often overlooked by others. Dissecting materials that speak to her, from misplaced books in a library to previous artworks from her own studio, Lin creates original patterns open for deciphering or interpretation. Each piece is a secret conversation between Lin, her lost and found inspirations, and her vibrant color palette.

Please join ampersand international arts for two solo shows featuring Amos Goldbaum's LineWork and Carey Lin's Just Say When, September 15th through October 13th, 2017. Artist reception will be held Friday, September 15th 6pm-9pm and regular gallery hours are Thursdays and Fridays 12pm-5pm or by appointment.
