Createfest: A Celebration of Art, Music, and Summer

The fifth annual Createfest celebration will take place on June 23rd from 5 to 8 pm at the Pence Gallery in Davis. Createfest is a free community event that encourages the participation of young visual artists, musicians, and designers to display and sell their artwork at our Maker’s Market.  Ten young artists will be selling everything from soap and jewelry to prints and paintings. Come find some great art from up and coming artists and support your local art scene. Teen artists interested in selling their art at the Maker Market should email teenstakecharge2018@gmail.com as soon as possible.

The event will also features musical performances on our stage outside by teen bands such as Amethyst and RadaR. Rock out to live music and enjoy free refreshments and drinks on a warm Davis night. There is something for all ages at Createfest! Hands-on craft activities include lanyard weaving, beaded jewelry, chalk art designs, Henna designs and spin art painting.

Teens Take Charge will also unveil their collaborative artwork, titled Projections Make Shadows.  This wire sculpture was created by all female teen group, who felt strongly about how women are burdened by the labels and expectations society projects onto them. Projected onto the female form are words that judge and attempt to define her.

The event marks the culmination of a four-month intensive program called Teens Take Charge, which introduces teens to professional artists in the region, tours museums and art studios, and gives them the opportunity to create their own public artwork.
