The 67th BFI London Film Festival (4 – 15 October) in partnership with American Express is excited to bring LFF Expanded, the Festival’s programme of Immersive Art and Extended Realities, to London for its 4th year. Running from 6 – 22 October 2023. The BFI London Film Festival celebrates the moving image in all its forms – from shorts and features to television and immersive – and LFF Expanded invites audience to explore and experience these powerful new ways of telling stories on screen. The programme brings together 14 immersive projects from around the world, including three world premieres, presented across multiple London venues - including the major new venue Bargehouse at Oxo Tower Wharf at the heart of the cultural hub of South Bank. Works will also be showcased at Outernet - the largest digital exhibition space in Europe -  Gallery at OXO, and Science Gallery London. There are some major artists and project showcases, from acclaimed visual artist Shirin Neshat's The Fury which depicts a first-person perspective of a woman's encounter with Iranian soldiers, to an immersive frontline exploration of Banksy's murals in the Ukraine and Darren Emerson's incredible holocaust project. Other highlights include Karen Palmer's SXSW-winning interactive feature film, Consensus Gentium, exploring the racial bias posed by AI; Forager which creates a sensory journey of mycelium and Colored - a powerful augmented reality adaptation of Tania de Montaigne's book about Claudette Colvin's experience of racial segregation in 50s USA, which was first shown at the Pompidou Centre in Paris and at Tribeca Festival. There will also be two free augmented reality walks in the heart of London, one which takes audiences on a local stroll along the Thames, between LFF venues Bargehouse and BFI Southbank, and one through the world-famous Trafalgar Square and the surrounding areas.
