The highly anticipated Malvern Retreat House Art Show returns this year beginning on January 31st from 10 AM – 7 PM. Come out to meet the artists at the Complimentary Wine and Cheese Reception on Thursday, February 1st, 4-8 PM. There will be over 100 Juried Artists with more than 2,000 fine art pieces including painting, sculpture, photography, jewelry, fiber art, wood, glasswork, and ceramics. I will have four of my larger alcohol ink paintings on display, along with many smaller works and a selection of giclee prints. No PA sales tax, ample parking, wheelchair accessible.

Artist ( Description ):

Nina Yocom was born and raised in suburban Philadelphia. Her earliest exposure to fine art was when her mother volunteered in public elementary schools with a program called “Art Goes to School.” This innovative program exposed her to a variety of artists and their work, along with an understanding of the color wheel and how colors work together. Her father, an award-winning photographer, also influenced her own lens. This background, along with a liberal arts education, cultivated an appreciation for how art is a conduit of connection. As an emerging artist in her early 50s, Nina feels that she is making a radical re-discovery of self, enhanced by the act of creating.

Artist Statement: In my work I allow the flow of alcohol ink to organically form the structure of my paintings, suggesting botanical and landscape subjects. On occasion, I layer acrylic over the alcohol ink once it has dried. This method gives my piece added dimension and is also an incredibly soothing process. I also enjoy using fine liner pens to detail over the alcohol ink images. Usually the artwork can stand alone if I am satisfied with the layout. Either way, I enjoy this medium for its ability to express gratitude, hope, healing and self-acceptance.

Venue ( Address ):

Malvern, PA 19355
