Start this Friday’s “date night” at the Artist Reception for Conversations and Contemplations, an exhibit of giant paintings by Gertie Mellon and surprising sculpture by Lidija Tkalcevic at the Gallery House, 320 California, Palo Alto, CA (650-326-1668). Enjoy a glass of wine and conversation with the artists from 6-8pm. If you can’t make the reception, the show runs through November 11th.
You will find plenty of beauty and fun as you look at the paintings and sculptures selected by Gertie and Lidija for this show. The art will make you smile and wonder as they bring the sights, and feelings, of the stories of our physical and political landscape.
GERTIE MELLON A native of Ireland, Gertie has a degree in Art and Design. Her emotional reaction to the elements of urban decay encroaching upon the landscape and how our surroundings effect us, dictates her visual language. The contrast from her childhood in rural Ireland and the past thirty years in major US cities influence her work. These dichotomies are the forces that drive her abstract and figurative paintings which are big, bold and colorful!
LIDIJA TKALCEVIC Lidija comes from Croatia. Even though a communist country in the late 70s, the social scene was vibrantly infused with progressive ideas, leaving lasting impressions on her young mind. Coming to America, Lidija immersed herself in sculpture. Her sculptures are declaratory and her work demonstrates strong sensitivity to society’s underdogs. Still a world traveler, local nature, culture and society influence her way of thinking and broaden her views. Her work is part of private collections and present in a few museums.
Gallery House hours are Tuesday and Wednesday 10 am to 6 pm, Thursday to Saturday 10am to 9pm and Sunday, 11:00 am to 3 pm Entry to the exhibit is free for the public.
